Friday 17 June 2011, Canberra – Million dollar waterfront properties are selling fast at Canberra’s luxurious residential development Bridge Point in Kingston. Colliers International sold 19 units off plan for more than $1M each, totalling $33M.
Derek Whitcombe, Director of Residential Project Marketing at Colliers International said he wasn’t surprised at the quick sales rate. Since the development launched late April 2011 only seven units remain for sale. “Whilst there are many luxury apartments for sale in Canberra, there really is no development quite like Bridge Point. “Bridge Point is arguabley the most prestigious residential address in Canberra and buyers will live on Canberra’s only residential island with private unterupted views that will never be built out,” he said.
Taking full advantage of the island location and celebrating its water frontage, open space and the lake itself, Bridge Point brings together lifestyle, elegance and space. Situated at the desirable northern point of its island location on Lake Burley Griffin, Bridge Point is designed to complement the Lake and surrounds. Mr Whitcombe said Bridge Point will have less than half the dwelings built on the site than is allowed on the DA. Whilst the site was originally earmarked for 107 units by the ACT Government, developer Doma Group have chosen to create only a limited number of exclusive apartments and lakefront residences of distinct quality for owner-occupiers.
Bridge Point comprises seven two-storey townhouses, three whole-floor penthouses and 35 one, two and three bedroom apartments designed to respond to the beauty of the lakefront location and all achieving ideal water views. Although the development has attracted enquiry from all around Australia and overseas, Canberrans accounted for 98 per cent of buyers. The three bedroom apartments, penthouses and resdiences were purchased by couples and families looking to live in luxurious waterfront homes in an all-residential development. “The features and amenities at Bridge Point presented buyers with a real downsize alternative, without compromising on privacy, size and amenity,” said Mr Whitcombe. One bedroom apartments started from $525,000 and were sold to astute investors who saw the opportunity to buy in a development and location not likely to be repeated in Canberra.
Bridge Point blends concrete, glass, timber stone and Terrazzo in disntictive and enduring design including a striking lobby lounge and a movie theatre exclusive to Bridge Point residents. The lakefront homes range in size from 213 to 316sq m, some spanning 10m wide with 6m ceilings and featuring secluded courtyards to front entry and four car garaging. Bridge Point is designed by Colin Stewart Architects. Colin Stewart is also responsible for the Kingston Foreshore Masterplan and driving the redevelopment of the area. Mr Whitcombe believes the popularity of Kingston will continue to grow as the foreshore urban renewal plan takes shape providing further unique recreational areas to residents. The Kingston Foreshore will include a fully functional boat harbour, a series of boardwalks, landscaped terraces, jetty, restaurants, waterfront parkland and public spaces.
